Inpatient Short-Term Drug Rehabs and Drug Treatment Centers

Short-term inpatient drug addiction and alcohol rehab programs keep patients up to 30 days in a drug rehab or alcohol treatment center. Most of these addiction treatment programs focus on medical stabilization, abstinence, and lifestyle changes. Staff members are primarily medical professionals and counselors trained in the treatment of drug addiction and alcohol addiction.

Short-Term Residential drug rehab and alcohol rehabs provide intensive but relatively brief residential addiction treatment based on a modified 12-step approach, talk and group therapy. Once primarily for alcohol abuse treatment, these programs expanded into drug abuse treatment in the 1980s. Reduced health care coverage for substance abuse treatment and drug rehab programs has resulted in a diminished number of these programs, and the average length of stay under managed care review is much shorter than in early programs, averaging 7-14 days.

Drug Rehab Textbook

For alcohol and drug rehab programs what is needed is a really great textbook. I’m not saying there are not a lot of good books for addiction, but a simple all inclusive text that is written with the idea of using it while going through rehab is difficult to find. It seems most to the books out their fall into one of two categories. The first is a text about a theory or idea about addiction. There are suberb ideas and wonderful understanding to be had by these books. However they are difficult to adapt to a going from point A to point B approach.

The others are a dialogue of someone’s travels through an addictive experience. These again make facinating reading and have lot’s of life lessons to be learned. To use these as a rehab textbook again would be problematic and not very useful. A great drug rehab textbook would have simple clear explanations of the effects of drug and alcohol. There would be explanations of the commons mental and physical problems with prolonged drug and alcohol use.

Quality of the program. If your drug rehab program wasn’t great to begin with, you won’t be in good shape to avoid relapse. Before signing up, find out the success rates of past participants.

Group rather than individualized therapy. Post-drug rehab relapse is so common largely because most drug rehabs don’t have offer any individual counseling. When someone sits in group meetings all day they don’t get the therapy they need in order to get better. When they check out of a drug rehab like that they usually still have the underlying problems that they checked in with.
